Sunrise Bistro & Bar: Celebrity Chef Brings Sumptuous Meals to the Heartland

Sunrise Bistro & Bar (Sunrise) has just unveiled its revamped a la carte menu. Sunrise offers a unique dining concept —communal dining by the beach— and is one of the first establishments in Singapore to do so. Helming the kitchen is Chef Vincent Teng, who to date has worked at My Dining Room, Scarlet Hotel, Table 66 and Skyve. Throughout his 22-year career, he has also cooked for a slate of MediaCorp artistes as well as politicians.

Why Sunrise Bistro & Bar (Sunrise)?

  • Quality cuisines at good-value price points
  • Communal dining by the beach — an intriguing culinary experience
  • Sumptuous Festive Meal: Chilled Assorted Seafood Platter; Meat Platter; and Desserts — all these at only S$99++
  • Entrees and signature dishes made with Asian ingredients
  • Incredibly tender meats cooked using the sous vide technique and other French cooking styles
  • A la carte and communal-sharing dishes available for dine-in and takeaways

My partner for the evening was Gilbert Tang, Senior Manhunt 2013. He had graciously picked me up to attend the food tasting together. We were ready for a comfortable night chilling out with the rest of the bloggers.
The decor gave a warm and cozy feel. I felt relaxed the moment I stepped into the place.
Sunrise also has an arsenal of premium wines and beers —expect brands such as Johnnie Walker, Chivas, Glenlivet, Macallan, Martell, just to name a few. A few signature cocktails such as the Black Swan (S$20), Infusions Collins (S$18) and Martin the Martian (S$18) feature blends concocted using the sous vide technique too.
Just in time for the end-of-year festivities, the chef will dole out the Sumptuous Festive Mealwhich features Chilled Assorted Seafood Platter, Meat Platter, and Desserts. I was all so ready to try it! To me, its a fantastic networking idea to have communal dining. You get to meet new people, share food and conversation if you do not need to have a private conversation with your friends that is.

The seafood platter comprises of freshly Shucked Australian Coffin Bay Oysters, which are plump, juicy and succulent. Cooked with an assortment of vegetables, the White Wine Blanched Live Prawns, Australian Blue Mussels & Venus Clams promises a flavourful and sweet note. Be whisked away to Japan with the Salmon Sashimi, whose pronounced taste attests to its freshness.

My favourite were the oysters (hoping for more!) and the salmon sashimi! Its a good serving to sample a bit of each but if you are a seafood lover than I reckon it might not be enough to settle your craving.

The sauces were a must have! Dip the sashimi in shoyu or wasabi to heighten the indulgence. The platter comes with condiments such as Japanese Mignonette with Japanese Brown Rice Vinegar and Thai Style Roasted Tomato Dip.

The meat platter stars a Whole Red Snapper with Cereal Crust; BBQ Black Angus Beef Ribs; and Crispy Pork Belly with Five Spice Salt. The cereal crust provides a crunchy bite while the red snapper has a soft and velvety texture. This dichotomous interplay is delightful! The glorious black angus beef ribs are cooked until the meat simply melts in the mouth. Bite into the irresistible crackling of the pork belly and know the meaning of bliss.

The platter comes with a choice of accompaniments such as Pumpkin and Potato Mash; Seasonal Sautéed Vegetables and French Fries in Truffle Oil. Sauces such as Homemade Apple and Smoked Tomato Ketchup; Sweet Chilli and Pineapple Salsa; and Honey Mustard Sauce are specially prepared to go along with the platter.

I was happily trying out the different sauces for the different taste that turned out. My vote for this platter goes to BBQ Black Angus Beef Ribs. Needless to say because I am a very beef person to start with.

Finish off the gourmet experience with Salted Egg Yolk & White Chocolate Fondue. Immerse the strawberries, bananas, cookies, panettones, marshmallows into the melted warm white chocolate and salted egg yolk custard dip.

The thick chocolate layer or ethereal salted egg yolk custard is pretty subjective. I would reckon most Singaporean would like it if you are someone who enjoy salted egg yolk crab or salted egg yolk bao (流沙包). This sauce with white chocolate and salted egg yolk custard works pretty well on my palate but I would be gamed to try other fruits with this dip too.

With this meal, Sunrise aims to bring back the nostalgic concept of communal dining, where everyone comes together and bonds over good food. Prices for the Sumptuous Festive Meal start from S$99++ per set for dining in. Patrons can choose to take away and enjoy the festive in the comfort of their homes. This Sumptuous Festive Platter is only made available from Saturday, 19 December 2015 to Friday, 1 January 2016.

Thank you Executive Chef and owner Vincent Teng for the wonderful meal tonight!
