What is a mole?
Many people refer to a mole as any dark spot or irregularity in the skin. Doctors use different terms. But the following types of skin marks such as these are not treated the same way moles are and are not discussed here:
- Birthmarks
- Abnormal formations of blood vessels (hemangiomas)
- Keratoses (benign or precancerous spots, which appear after about age 30 years)
What causes moles?
- Some people are born with moles. Other moles appear later in life.
- Sun exposure seems to play a role in the development of moles and may even play a role in the development of atypical, or dysplastic, moles.
- The role of heredity cannot be overemphasized. Many families have a type of mole known as dysplastic (atypical), which can be associated with a higher frequency of melanoma.
This was me with my mole that had stayed with me for the past few decades!
I had 2 facial moles that were with me since I was a few years old and removing this was a huge step for me. During younger days, I was made fun of by my classmates in school. Older folks said my moles meant that I was someone who loved to eat “tum jiak” in Hokkien.
Dr. Jenny then helped me with the smaller mole using fraxel laser. It just took less than 10 mins for it to be completed. I was told that I might need another round of laser for the mole to be completely removed as the mole is deep.
Fraxel is effective on:
- Fine lines and wrinkles – like crow’s feet and brow lines
- Surface scarring – erasing effects of acne and other scarring
- Pigmentation – minimizing the appearance of age spots
- Sun damage – helping heal dangerous skin damage
- Actinic Keratosis (AK) – a common pre-cancerous skin condition
A keloid, sometimes referred to as a keloid scar, is a tough heaped-up scar that rises quite abruptly above the rest of the skin. It usually has a smooth top and a pink or purple color. Keloids are irregularly shaped and tend to enlarge progressively.

Before stitch removal…
This was how it looked like after the stitches were freshly removed.
One month later. Healing pretty well and I applied the scar scream on a daily basis.
I would be organising another trip this AUG with clinic tour and managing your trip. If you are keen, please feel free to contact me at celestiafaithchong@gmail.com.
