Relationship is what binds it

Why authenticity, the right fit and a responsible mindset matter more than any single deal.

People introduce me as a business connector. What I do is simpler than it sounds, and harder than it looks: I put the right people in the same room, and I try to make the relationship between them one that lasts.

Anyone can make an introduction. Making a good one takes judgement — and a few things I have learned to look for over twenty years.

It begins with authenticity

The first thing I look for is authenticity. You cannot fake it, and it is the one quality that survives pressure. When two people are genuine with each other, almost anything becomes possible. When they are not, no deal is worth making — because it will not hold.

Then the right fit

The second is fit. A good introduction is not about who is most impressive on paper. It is about whether two people are right for each other — the right values, the right timing, the right need. I would rather make one introduction that truly fits than ten that merely look good.

Attitude carries it

The third is attitude. A positive mindset is not a soft thing; it is what carries a partnership through the parts that are difficult — and business will test everyone eventually. The people who come through are the ones who stayed positive, and stayed responsible to one another. Because it is a business, after all, and business comes with responsibility: to show up, to do what you said, to protect the other person’s name as carefully as your own.

Relationship is what binds it

But at the end of the day, relationship is what binds all of this together. Deals close. Campaigns end. The relationship is what remains — and what brings the next opportunity to the table. That is why I have spent twenty years investing in it, and why the people I work with come back.

That is the room I try to build, every time — authentic, well-matched, positive, responsible. Get those right, and the business tends to take care of itself.
